I’m going to geek out tonight for this weeks Alphabe-Thursday: Blue.  It’s something I promised Jason that I would write a post about and so I’m following up on that promise 🙂  So if you get lost, confused or bored of reading this post, I won’t hold any grudges.  So don’t feel bad for skimming or skipping. Blue is the color of Maat’s cap. You’re probably wondering who Maat is.  Well, he’s this character in an online game that Jason plays (it’s Final Fantasy XI). This is Maat. Maat is an old man who is well trained in all the different job classes in thisRead More →

Quick tell me what color light is this. Green light, you say? Why, yes, it is indeed a green light….if you live outside of Japan. In Japanese, the word for green is “midori” and the word for blue is “ao.”  In Japan, they call green lights “ao-shingo“, or blue light.  You will never find a Japanese person referring to this light as a “midori-shingo” despite it’s obviously green color. Strange, isn’t it? I was pretty confused about this the first time I heard about it so I did a little googling. It seems that the word for “green” did not exist in the past andRead More →

Follow the Yellow Brick Road. Follow the Yellow Brick Road. Follow, follow, follow, follow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road. – Wizard of Oz (by the way, today’s the 71st anniversary of the film…at least according to Google) You can find these yellow, bumpy strips on almost all the streets here in Japan.  These are here to help the blind navigate around the city and to prevent them from walking into traffic, off train platforms or into any dangerous situations. Bumps right before the edge of the train platform. Bumps before the stairs. Bumps to tell you where you can safely cross the street and whereRead More →

I love public transportation in Tokyo. There’s plenty of them and you have so many different options to choose from. I just love public transportation! Of course, one downside to all this public transportation is that everyone else uses it too. When that happens, the trains get incredibly crowded and quite uncomfortable especially if it’s a highly used line during rush hour. In fact, some of you might know or have seen this image that someone took to describe how crowded trains can get. Crazy, right? To be honest, I’ve only encountered really crowded trains a handful of times in the four years we’ve livedRead More →

I’ve discovered a new meme to play around with from 2 of my favorite blogs.  It’s called Alphabe-Thursday, held over at …off on my tangent… by Jenny Matlock. As if my Thursdays aren’t full enough, I decided that I want to partake on the fun over on that blog too. This week, we are working on all things Rainbow Red. So here’s my red for the week…Can you guess what it is? (hint:  It’s a home decor…well at least in my home) Back side Just follow the little red buttons 🙂 Ok, this is an incredibly big hint 🙂 Ta Da! It’s E’s growth chart!Read More →
