“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” We needed to go to the US embassy to renew E’s passport so after I picked E up from school, we headed to the embassy. Both parents had to be present in order for us to file for a renewal for a child under 16 so we had to wait for Jason to arrive at the embassy before we could go in. Both girls were being impatient and grumpy so I made them sit on the stairs to calm down. They were both clutching these flyers they got from the taxi we tookRead More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” Two portraits this week just to mix it up a little. Ellie: E was using the iPad mini while Jason was working on putting Kaylie down for a nap. All the light that I’m using here is the light from her iPad.  Kaylie: She’s a bit on edge lately and has been driving me crazy with her shrieking when she doesn’t get what she wants. Getting her to sit still for even a moment is a bit of work these days. I’m taking an online class on finding the light for photographing peopleRead More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” These two kids are just so sweet. Jason had just gotten home and we were talking about something when we realized the kids were being really quiet. We looked over and saw them together like that and I just had to get a photo. 🙂 This month has been crazy so far. It’s the last month before the older kids leave for elementary school in April so the school tries to cram a whole bunch of activity before they leave. E’s school is an international school and follows the standard September to JuneRead More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” Despite the 4 year age gap, there are times when both E and K play well together. Especially now that K is older, more mobile, and less fragile, you’ll often find these two monkeys wrestling with one another playfully. Today is Hina Matsuri, or Girls’ Day, in Japan. Traditionally, people put out these beautiful doll sets for display and prepare pretty looking food to celebrate this day. We don’t own any of the dolls since they are expensive and I find them a little creepy (well all dolls tend to creep me out).Read More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” K really loves it when E plays with her and showers her with attention. Sometimes, they would be off on our bed playing and talking with each other, which I find really adorable. I just hope they continue having a close relationship while growing up.  These past two weeks have been busy. I’m not sure why I’m always so busy but time slips by so fast that I never really know where it all goes. I’m pretty sure having the girls’ birthdays being only 2 weeks apart help complicate things a tad bitRead More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” We are not morning people and our kids have followed in our footsteps. E and K woke up a little early on Saturday and were still in a zombie state while watching morning cartoons and having a morning snack as Jason and I got ready for the day.   I realized that I am behind by a week on this project. There really isn’t any schedule or anything but being off a week throws me off when I have to go through my photos. Hopefully this will get me back on track. AnotherRead More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” Last weekend, we had a fantastic snowstorm in Tokyo. We played outside for a while but ultimately, it was too cold for us so we went back home. The kids still wanted to play with snow, so Jason scooped up buckets of snow from outside and dumped it into our bathroom for them to enjoy. They were having too much fun throwing snow at the walls and ceiling. Ah, the fun of snow in the comforts of home.  This week has been a busy week. Mostly because E had no school half theRead More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” K is quite the climber these days but she isn’t completely fearless and would start crying the minute she realized she’s stuck. E was feeling a bit under the weather but didn’t want to rest in her room so she slept out on the couch. Last week, both K and E had tummy problems. E threw up at school and had to come home early. We had her stay home the next day to rest and she was ready to go back on Wednesday. We’re not sure what caused her to throw upRead More →
