“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” Last weekend, we had a fantastic snowstorm in Tokyo. We played outside for a while but ultimately, it was too cold for us so we went back home. The kids still wanted to play with snow, so Jason scooped up buckets of snow from outside and dumped it into our bathroom for them to enjoy. They were having too much fun throwing snow at the walls and ceiling. Ah, the fun of snow in the comforts of home.  This week has been a busy week. Mostly because E had no school half theRead More →

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014.” E: Wanted a hug from Jason. K: Wants to chew on everything these days. This was taken on the 3rd of January at the Denny’s in our neighborhood. We had originally planned on having brunch at Coco’s in another part of town but there was a really bad fire that happened in Yurakucho (2 stations away) which shut down the trains for a few hours so we came here instead. We found out how bad the situation was when we got home. A building next to the train lines (one we passed byRead More →

2013. Oh, sweet 2013. You went by way too fast for us. It seems a little silly writing a lookback at 2013 when it’s already 2014 but I feel the need to give 2013 a good closure before moving on with the new year. I was originally going to write this post back at the end of December but as with everything last year, things happen and the blog gets put in the back burner. I was also spending too much time thinking about how to write this post that I finally decided “to heck with it!” and just started writing to see where itRead More →

These two girls think that this guy is the #1 dad in the world. Well, probably not K since she tends to cry whenever Jason smiles at her. And E is also a little bit scared of Jason sometimes since he’s the strict one between the two of us. But they both love him and that’s all that matters. To me, Jason is a great dad. Sure, there are times when we don’t quite agree on how to approach certain parenting issues that come up but we always find a compromise. For the most part, we want the same things for our kids and weRead More →

It’s already June, eh? Time sure flies by fast especially when there’s a baby around. Wondering how everyone is coming along? Well, we’re still hanging in there. – K – These days, K is sleeping through the night (made easier by the fact that we co-sleep with her). She’s a bit fussier than when she was first born but she’s still a lot easier to calm than E ever was. It’s hard to believe that next week she will be 4 months old next week. She’s also mastering the art of tummy time and has flipped over a few times, though I’m never sure if it’sRead More →

Right now, I can’t recall what day of the week it is. They all blur together for me. Right now, I am very sleep deprived. Why I’m up writing a blog post instead of sleeping is beyond me. Right now, I’m holding a sleeping Kaylie. She spent most of last night and all day today fussing and crying despite having a clean diaper and being fed. She didn’t sleep well and neither did we. Right now, I’m still not sure why my newborn who was fairly easy for the past few weeks suddenly became so difficult and incredibly fussy and inconsolable. Right now, a massageRead More →

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope that many of you had a good Christmas and new year with your families. Well, it’s officially the end of the holiday season. Jason went back to work today after a week long break. Unfortunately, today is also his birthday, which in my opinion really sucks. Plus he’s working one day and then it’s the weekend again. I, on the other hand, am on maternity leave. Plus, E is still on winter break until next Wednesday so I need to be home to take care of her. All I can say is that as much as I love spendingRead More →

This past weekend was the last official weekend of this summer for us especially since E officially starts preschool next week. Since we didn’t go anywhere this summer because of the heat and humidity, we decided it’s time we took a trip to the beach. Beaches in and near Tokyo aren’t very clean looking (or clean in general) so we traveled farther south to the beaches of Shimoda, located on the Izu Peninsula and as far south as you can go by train on this peninsula. We also opted for a family friendly hotel with a pool over one of the many nicer hot springRead More →
