This is our third year of hosting Thanksgiving dinner. Unlike previous years where we hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for all our Japanese and European friends, this year we hosted Thanksgiving for E’s Girl Scouts of America troop. It was our troops very first Thanksgiving since it was created a year ago. Everyone brought a dish and everything was incredibly delicious. Since everyone brought something to share, I only had to cook a few things instead of the entire dinner. One mom read a book about the first Thanksgiving and about the pilgrims to the girls so that they could appreciate this holiday. To make thisRead More →

Sometimes I wonder about Jason. He’s a very strange person and he never ceases to surprise me with the things he does. For example, today, as I began making dinner, I realized that we didn’t have any mayonnaise for the sauce I was making. Me: Jason, do you think you can go downstairs and buy some mayo? I need some for the recipe and we’re out. Jason: Sure. I’ll be right back. Several minutes later… Jason: Is THIS enough mayo? *holds a bottle of mayo up to me* Me: *stare at him, then at the mayo, then back at him* Jason: *he smiles at meRead More →

Today’s been a long day. My head hurts and I’m tired so I’m just going to put up a pretty picture and call it a post. It’s not even a picture from today. It is however something I’m wishing I can have right at this moment Mmm, Gingerbread Latte with a Candle Rollcake. Hope you have a good Monday!Read More →

Pepsi Japan has done it again! They put out another interesting flavored Pepsi for the holiday season! I’ve written about a few flavors in the past before. There was the Carribean Gold: White Sapote Flavor from earlier this year. Then there was Pepsi Baobab last year. There was also a Pepsi Shiso and Pepsi Azuki Bean in 2009. There are actually a lot more flavors that have been out but I don’t always buy them out of fear of what it’ll taste like. This time they made everything pink. They even called it “Pink” just in case it’s not obvious to you what color it’s supposeRead More →

…and you get….the Chicken Rice Place! Ok, the real name of this place isn’t really called the Chicken Rice Place.  Jason and his coworkers call it that and that’s what he and I call it now too.  I think the real name of the place is “Hawker-style Asian Canteen.” I like calling it the Chicken Rice Place more.  It just sounds better than Hawker-style. Anyway, I thought I’d share with you one of the places that we love to go eat at for lunch…well, at least whenever I go have lunch with Jason in his work area. This place, as you can probably guess byRead More →

It’s finally summer in Japan and that means it’s time for the annual “what-the-heck” flavored Pepsi again! Every year, Pepsi Japan comes out with “flavored” versions of their soda for a limited time.  One year it was cucumber Pepsi.  Last year we saw Shiso Pepsi and Azuki bean Pepsi. This year’s flavor? Baobab. So what is Baobab? Well from the illustrations on the bottle, it kinda looks like it’s related to something in Africa.  Here’s a close up image of the label. Now, my Japanese is not very good so I cannot make out what it says on there but I do see the wordRead More →

Cereal. We all love cereal at one point in our lives, right?  Well at least I hope that everyone had once love cereal.  If you still do, that’s awesome 🙂 I love cereal.  I use to eat it all the time for breakfast because it’s quick and easy and depending on the type, it’s also a bit healthy. I was contemplating about whether or not I wanted to buy cereal when I was at the market the other day.  I ended up not buying any because the selection offered in my area isn’t that great. Typically, you can find a bit of “healthy” cereal likeRead More →

I admit, I don’t like fruit all too much.  Well, it’s not that I don’t like fruit, I just find the natural sugars of fruit to be too sweet for my liking.  So naturally, I don’t like fruit flavored anything, especially ice cream. It’s cherry blossom season so many restaurants and dessert places are offering sakura/cherry flavored food items.   More specifically in our case, Baskin Robbins (aka. 31 flavors) has brought back their much loved Cherries Jubilee (or as they call it here “Burgundy Cherry”). Unlike the US, Cherries Jubilee is a seasonal flavor in Japan.  It’s saddening for Jason since he loves that flavorRead More →
