When it comes to clothes, E is especially picky about what type of pants she wears. And I mean throw-a-tantrum-and-refuse-to wear-pants picky. So on Thursday, I was doing dishes in the kitchen when Jason and E came home. As soon as her shoes were off and as she was walking past the kitchen, I hear her say “いらない!” (irainai, which mean “I don’t want it!”) and then she took off her pants, taking her socks off with them. I was unaware of what she had just done until Jason walked in, saw a pantless E and asked her in bewilderment “Daughter! Why did you takeRead More →

We had a 3 day weekend this week but I spent most of it sick in bed. It was inevitable since both Jason and E have been sick the past week and a half. I was hoping I could make it out of this one without catching whatever they had but on Saturday, I began to feel the aches and pains that came with being sick. E and I were hanging out when I started feeling tired and needed to lay down for a bit. E didn’t want me to go and then this conversation happened. (translation in parenthesis) me: Ellie, mommy wants to go lieRead More →

It’s no secret that I’m a photographer of some sort…at least in an academic sense. Still, I love to document things I see and experience through my lens everyday. So it’s no big surprise that E picked up on that interest and wants to be like me. Now I’m all for fostering my child’s interest in learning and exploring new things. I just don’t want to do it with my cameras because, frankly, they are nice cameras and E has butter-fingers. I use to let her play with my Fujifilm instax a lot but she kept dropping it due to the weight and she alsoRead More →

Jason and I are quite proud of how far we’ve come as parents. I mean, we were completely clueless as to how to raise a child but so far, we’ve done a fairly decent job of raising E. We’re not experts in this whole parenting thing and we’re constantly learning and relearning things that we thought we had down pat. Every time we thought we had some of this all figured out, the rules change on us and we’re back to square one. Still, we were doing a pretty good job keeping E from doing something dangerous and hurting herself. At least until yesterday afternoon.Read More →

E is at quite a fun age right now. I’ve been told that the toddler years can be a lot of fun as well as frustrating since it’s when they learn how to communicate and at the same time test their boundaries. These days, E is very talkative. Sometimes a little too talkative….like those days when I have a migraine and all I hear is “mummy, mummy, mummy.” Despite those days, it’s actually a lot of fun conversing with E especially since she has quite an extensive vocabulary now. Her vocabulary is about 70% Japanese, 15% English and 15% Ellie-go (her own language). She singsRead More →

Mommy, why is the sky blue? Why do I have to eat vegetables? Why do I have to go to school? Why? Why? Why? Ah, questions. Not just any question but the inevitable “why?” question. I imagine that many of us have been on the receiving end of those why’s, right?  I know that when I was growing up, I use to ask my parents why all the time.  Sometimes it was just to annoy them.  Other times it was a trick for me to try to get out of whatever they are trying to make me do.  But then there were also times whenRead More →

Jason and E have a strange relationship.  It’s a strange one because I think they are always jealous of each other when it comes to monopolizing my free time. E definitely doesn’t like it when Jason gets too close to me.  She has this method of wedging herself between us and try to push him away. I’m pretty sure that Jason misses those days when he didn’t have to compete for my attention. Still there are times when they can coexist together….often times it involves me not present in the room with them.   It’s during these peaceful moments that Jason likes to admire just howRead More →

This is E’s new toy from the States. By now, she’s already lost most of the pieces.  In fact, she finds more amusement with the crate than the actual toys inside. Here’s the original use of the crate… Here’s how she uses it… She sits in it. Stand in it. And stand on it. There’s only one problem.  She has trouble figuring out how to get off it. Silly E.Read More →
