β€œA portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2015.” This one is from when we were in Hong Kong. The night we arrived, my grandmother was so happy to see us and have us stay over that the minute we entered her home, she fed my kids Oreos and milk. All this at 10:30 at night. The kids were thrilled and tried to eat as many as they could while I was getting settled in at her apartment. I finally had to cut them off at 7 Oreos. Still, they were so happy to eat that much sugar this late at night.Read More →

β€œA portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2015.” Imitation at its finest. E was posing with a peace sign and K was trying to copy her except she hasn’t figured out how to hold up just 2 fingers yet. πŸ™‚Β  I’m just catching up on this since we’ve been busy and traveling so much. Always better late than never, right?Read More →

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activities. My in-laws arrived at the end of February and the six of us whirled off to a weekend in Kyoto. When we came back, we celebrated my father-in-law’s birthday followed by E’s birthday the day after. After spending a week with them, they left for Hong Kong and we attended (semi-co-hosted) a belated birthday party for E and her best friend, Charlotte. The following few days after were filled with massive decluttering as I tried to gather things to give away at her school’s White Elephant sale. All while battling really bad allergies (hay fever).Read More →

Can you believe that 6 years ago, E was this tiny? (She’s technically a month old here) This little baby who changed Jason and my world forever turns 6 today. Six!!! Sometimes I can’t believe how quickly time has passed. She’s grown so much these past few years and is very much an explorer of her own world. She’s full of curiosity and is always observing the world around her and questions things she sees. Her imagination is so vivid and amazing and she is so articulate when she describes them to me. She’s also very shy and hates being at the center of attentionRead More →

β€œA portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2015.” They were best friends when we first got on the crowded bus. They even held hands and giggled together over silly things. Minutes after this was taken, there was scream, yelling, and crying over who gets to hold which one of mommy’s hand. It was a very long bus ride after that. We were in Kyoto this weekend with Jason’s parents, who are visiting us in Japan this week. The trip was a rough one since K’s terrible two’s reared its ugly head everywhere we went. I’ve wanted to go on a familyRead More →

β€œA portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2015.” I was getting Ellie’s school stuff ready for the next day while Jason was in the bathroom getting the kids to brush their teeth.  “Jen, come here and see what the kids are doing! You’re going to want a picture of this!” He was right. It was a cute moment worthy of a picture πŸ™‚ I’ve trained him well. Read More →

Last Tuesday was a big day for us. It was K’s 2nd birthday and it was also the day of E’s elementary school parent info session (called a shogakko setsumekai 小学树θͺ¬ζ˜ŽδΌš for those interested). It’s a pretty important event since we’ve been notified of it since last November during E’s health screening at the school. We’ve even received a letter announcing the importance of attending this information session and how it is a parents only event. Even though E’s elementary is a Japanese public school, they have quite a few foreign families in her class. Pretty much all the information was translated into English forRead More →

Can you believe it?! This little monkey is 2 years old today! 2 years old! It makes me sad that she is growing up so fast but I’m also happy to watch her become a little person with so much personality and spunk. We usually keep our birthdays low-key and this year is no different. I bought K an Olaf ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins and we had a simple dinner with just the four of us at home. After dinner and cake, we opened her birthday present which she spent the rest of the evening playing. They’re all princess toys, by the way.Read More →
