Another day, another random conversation. This afternoon, we were on a train that was predominantly covered in ads for HIS (the travel agency).  They are trying to promote some summer travel package for France.  I made another comment about wanting to see France which then somehow led into this conversation about the volcano in Iceland that erupted recently. If your curious about the eruption at Eyjafjallajokull (I kid you not on the name), here are a few places of interest: A news article Photos of the activity A great blog with an open letter to Eyjafjallajokull. If I were you, I’d go and check outRead More →

My dad is an interesting person. Growing up, I always found my dad to be a fountain of all sorts of information.  I think it’s because he reads a lot about anything and everything.  The fact that he’s a rocket scientist doesn’t hurt either.  (ok, well he works with outer space stuff as an engineer…but that’s close enough) Since I rarely write about my dad, I felt compelled to do this weeks writing workshop prompt: 3.) What does that tell you about your father?  List five products your father used (or uses).  Write a longer piece about, at least, one of them. These are theRead More →

I admit, I don’t like fruit all too much.  Well, it’s not that I don’t like fruit, I just find the natural sugars of fruit to be too sweet for my liking.  So naturally, I don’t like fruit flavored anything, especially ice cream. It’s cherry blossom season so many restaurants and dessert places are offering sakura/cherry flavored food items.   More specifically in our case, Baskin Robbins (aka. 31 flavors) has brought back their much loved Cherries Jubilee (or as they call it here “Burgundy Cherry”). Unlike the US, Cherries Jubilee is a seasonal flavor in Japan.  It’s saddening for Jason since he loves that flavorRead More →

Mirrors frighten me.  Well, to be exact, reflections frighten me. Sure, I look at myself in the mirror everyday.   I even play with E in front of a mirror just fine but when I am alone in front of my own reflection, I get shivers up my spine. It’s really a silly thing since I know a lot of it is in my imagination. Whenever I’m staring at myself in the mirror, I start to feel a bit uneasy.  I half expect my reflection to move or flinch just a tiny bit on its own while I’m perfectly still. Sometimes, I’m staring at theRead More →

No, I’m not talking about the color… If you recall a few posts back, I made Jason some felt cookies for Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is the day when I give something to Jason (or to other guys too) and White Day is when he gives me back in return. That’s just how things are done here in Japan (and some other Asian countries). Valentine’s Day marketing is aimed towards women. It is, in theory, the day that females give chocolate to the guy they show affection towards or has a secret crush on. You can either purchase these chocolates premade and wrapped in niceRead More →

The flight between Tokyo and Los Angeles is never fun. It’s long, it’s tiring and it really screws up your sense of time. It’s even harder when you have to do it with an active toddler who is curious about everything she sees. Our flight back to Tokyo felt like a lifetime. It was only 11 1/2 hours but it really felt like it was never going to end. E was all over the place. She wanted to touch everything, see everything, wave at everyone and see what all our neighbors were up to. She wanted to sing her little songs and babble baby talk.Read More →

Well, E and I have been back in California for about a week now. We still have another week and a half to go before we head back to Japan with Jason. Jason will be coming soon (yay!) I’ve missed him terribly this whole week and it hasn’t been easy taking care of E on my own most of the time. I just miss having him around to talk to and to get a hug from when E is having one of her grumpy moments. Our trip so far hasn’t been too bad. E has been on good behavior for the most part. She’s definitelyRead More →

E and I are pretty much ready for our flight home. It’s going to be weird traveling without Jason for so long but time will fly by quickly. Wish us luck on our long flight!Read More →
