Surprisingly enough, this happens to me quite frequently… Japanese student (JS): Hi, I’m Mayuki. Me: Hi, I’m Jennifer. JS: So where are you from? Me: California. JS: But where are you from originally? Me: California. JS: Oh… *looks disappointed* (awkward silence) Me: Oh, but my parents are from Hong Kong! JS: *face brightens up again*  Wow, so can you speak Chinese? Me: Yes!  In fact, I’m fluent in Chinese. JS: Oh really?  That’s amazing! It’s interesting to note that most of the time it’s the Japanese people (mostly students) I meet who seem more interested that my parents are from Hong Kong than the factRead More →

This is E’s new toy from the States. By now, she’s already lost most of the pieces.  In fact, she finds more amusement with the crate than the actual toys inside. Here’s the original use of the crate… Here’s how she uses it… She sits in it. Stand in it. And stand on it. There’s only one problem.  She has trouble figuring out how to get off it. Silly E.Read More →

This week has been quite a week. For a while now, I’ve been wondering what life would be like once I settle back into work and school. Obviously, it’s not going to be the same since I have E to care for now. To tell you the truth, I was hoping that everything will work out and I can start the school year off without a hitch. When the week started off with rain on Monday and Jason still limping around, I had a really bad feeling that this was going to be a rough week. I think I jinxed myself because things just gotRead More →

E did something new and strange today.  What possessed her to try it is beyond me. I think it’s all part of her discovering the joys of taking things out and putting them back into containers. The container She was successful in getting both feet in but because the toy has a curved bottom, I had to hold it up with my feet so she wouldn’t fall over. The things this crazy child does for fun….Read More →

I love ice cream. I’m also very Chinese and is always on the lookout for bargains. That’s why I was so happy the other day when I saw a sale on Haagen Dazs ice cream when I was at the market. It was 9:00am in the morning but I bought ice cream and I ate it. I did say that I love ice cream, right?  There’s never a bad time to eat ice cream in my world. Mmm, look at the yummy ice cream… While I was sitting outside of the market enjoying my mini cup of ice cream, I started thinking about how muchRead More →

Meet Big Yellow. (Ok, I just made up that name….but it’s better than calling her “Duck”) She’s E’s bathtub. She became E’s primary bathtub when E outgrew the one that fits in the sink. If you squeeze her duckbill, she’ll quack. E doesn’t like the quacking.  It confuses her. E loves to take her baths in Big Yellow. I think it’s because she can stand up in Big Yellow and won’t slip and fall. For more yellow photos, go check out I Should Be Folding Laundry.Read More →

2 weekends ago, we went to Hong Kong…kinda… I mean we went to Hong Kong without really going into Hong Kong.  We actually spent all of our time in Tsuen Wan, which is in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It was a very last minute trip.  We literally booked tickets for the flight out 2 weeks before. It was crazy.  And expensive. The trip had 2 goals in mind: 1) meet up with my in-laws since they will be in Hong Kong to visit family and 2) have E meet her great grandparents. We’ve accomplished both goals over the 3 days we were there.Read More →

As you know by now, I’ve been battling a nasty cold that E passed to me when we were in Hong Kong.  Think of it as her Mother’s Day gift to me, if you will. For the most part, the tiredness and the fever has mostly come and gone.  All that’s left now is the nasty cough that just won’t go away. It’s not even a phlegmy cough.  It’s a very dry cough. Very, very dry cough. Not only is it dry but it tends to act up the most during the evenings when I’m trying to sleep.  No, I should say that it actsRead More →
